MetroLink is the single biggest investment in transport infrastructure in the history of the State and is part of an integrated transport system for the Greater Dublin Area (GDA). This system also includes for BusConnects and DART+ all of which are included under Project Ireland 2040. Together these projects will result in reliable, sustainable, affordable, integrated public transport system that will support the economy, help Ireland meet its climate change targets in line with Climate Action Plan (CAP) 2024 and make Dublin a more liveable and sustainable city. While MetroLink is a critical part of the proposed integrated transport system for the GDA, it is a standalone project that is not dependent on any other projects for its delivery or effective operation.
The proposal for a metro system for Dublin has been central to planning and transport strategy for the GDA for over 20 years. The proposed MetroLink Project has evolved from the previous proposal in response to the development of planning and transport policy and to address the challenges that face Dublin and Ireland today and into the future.
